Doble Engineering Company, founded in 1920 and based in Watertown, Massachusetts, is one of the two names that dominate high-voltage electrical apparatus testing worldwide. Doble effectively created the field: the power factor (tan delta) insulation test that every utility uses to judge whether a transformer, bushing or circuit breaker is safe to keep in service was industrialised by Doble, and the M-series test sets that perform it — the M4100 and now the M7100 — have been the reference instruments in substations for decades.
Doble is now part of ESCO Technologies and has grown by absorbing several other respected test-equipment makers, so a modern “Doble” catalogue actually spans five brand lineages. That matters when you own the equipment: your instrument may carry a Vanguard, ISA, Phenix, TECHiMP or Morgan Schaffer badge and still be a Doble product today.

Doble test equipment repair in India — what your options actually are
A Doble test set is a capital instrument. An M4100 power factor analyser, an M5500 sweep frequency response analyser or an F6150 relay test system represents a serious investment, and when one fails the substation testing programme it supports stops with it. Utilities, transformer manufacturers, EPC contractors and third-party testing agencies across India all face the same three choices when that happens: send the unit abroad for OEM service, replace it outright, or have it repaired independently.
For an in-warranty or contract-covered instrument, the OEM route is the right one and we will say so. The picture changes once the unit is out of warranty — and it changes completely once the model has been declared end-of-life. A great deal of the Doble and Vanguard equipment working in Indian substations today falls into that second category: Vanguard CT-6500 and CT-7500 breaker timers, WRM-10 and WRM-40 winding resistance meters, ATO-400 and DMOM-200 micro-ohmmeters, ATRT-01 and ATRT-03 turns ratio testers, EZCT-2000A CT analysers and IRM-5000 megohmmeters are all still in daily service, and all predate the current catalogue. These instruments are mechanically sound and metrologically capable; what usually fails is a power supply, a display, a keypad, a printer or a single measurement channel.

If a NABL-accredited calibration certificate is required for your audit trail, have the unit calibrated at an accredited laboratory once we have restored it to working order — and if we believe an instrument is beyond economic repair, we will tell you that instead of taking your money.

All Doble, Vanguard, ISA, Phenix, TECHiMP and Morgan Schaffer names and model numbers are trademarks of their respective owners and are used here only to identify the equipment we repair. If your instrument is still under OEM warranty or contract, go to Doble first — opening it elsewhere may void that cover. We exist for the units that are out of warranty, out of support, or that the OEM has declared end-of-life.
That is exactly the work we do most. Discontinued models — Vanguard CT-6500 and CT-7500 breaker timers, WRM-10/WRM-40 winding resistance meters, ATO-series micro-ohmmeters, ATRT-01/ATRT-03 TTR sets, EZCT-2000A/B, IRM-5000 megohmmeters and older M-series units — are repaired at component level. Where an obsolete IC or module is genuinely unobtainable, our PCB reverse engineering team can redesign that section of the board to restore function.
We functionally test and verify the instrument across its measurement ranges against our reference standards, and we supply a test report with the repair. We are a repair house, not an accredited calibration laboratory — so if you need a NABL-accredited calibration certificate for audit or statutory purposes, have the unit calibrated at an accredited lab after our repair. We will tell you honestly if a unit is drifting beyond what repair alone can correct.
It depends entirely on the fault. A failed keypad, printer or power supply is a modest job; a blown high-voltage amplifier stage or a dead processor board on a large relay test system costs considerably more. Diagnosis is free and the quote is fixed before any work starts — you always see the price before you commit. If we cannot fix it, you pay nothing for the repair attempt.
