What we do differently — and what we don't claim
Component-level, not module-swap
We trace the fault to the failed device on the board. That is the only approach that works when the replacement module has not been manufactured for fifteen years.
Discontinued models are the speciality
End-of-life instruments are where independent repair earns its place. If the OEM has retired your model, that is a reason to call us, not a reason to give up.
PCB reverse engineering in-house
When an obsolete IC genuinely cannot be sourced anywhere, we redesign that section of the board to restore the original function rather than declaring the unit scrap.
Free diagnosis, fixed quote
You get a written root-cause report and a fixed price before any work starts. If we cannot repair it, you pay nothing for the attempt.
Honest about calibration
We functionally verify against our reference standards and give you a test report. We are not an accredited calibration lab and we will never pretend otherwise.
Repaired in India, not shipped abroad
No export documentation, no customs delays, no euro-denominated invoice. Ship it to Vadodara and get it back working.
Please note: we do not offer courier pickup or drop, and we do not carry out on-site installation or commissioning of test equipment. Instruments are shipped to our Vadodara facility and returned by courier after repair. Where another repairer has already attempted a repair, an inspection charge applies — we tell you the amount before you ship.
Electrical test and measurement instrument repair across India
Electrical test equipment sits in an awkward position in most maintenance budgets. It is expensive, it is critical, and it is almost never redundant. A utility substation division, a transformer manufacturer's test bay, an EPC contractor's commissioning team or an independent testing agency typically owns exactly one power factor set, one relay test system and one breaker analyser. When any of them fails, the testing programme it supports stops until the instrument comes back.
The conventional options are unattractive. Sending the unit to the manufacturer usually means exporting it, waiting weeks or months, and paying a foreign-currency invoice. Replacing it means a capital purchase and a procurement cycle measured in quarters. And if the model has been discontinued, the manufacturer may simply decline the job — which leaves an otherwise sound instrument sitting in a store room.
Synchronics Electronics has been repairing industrial electronics at component level from Vadodara, Gujarat since 1994. We are an independent repair company — not an authorised service partner for Doble, OMICRON, Megger or anyone else — and that independence is precisely what lets us take on the work the OEMs will not: end-of-life models, orphaned brands, and instruments whose original spare assemblies stopped being made a decade ago. Our engineers work on the circuit itself, tracing a fault to the specific failed device rather than swapping a module that may no longer exist.
The scope covers the whole of electrical testing. Transformer diagnostics: power factor and tan delta test sets, turns ratio testers, winding resistance meters, tap changer analysers, sweep frequency response analysers and dielectric response instruments. Circuit breaker testing: timing and travel analysers, coil current recorders, micro-ohmmeters and vacuum bottle testers, along with the linear and rotary travel transducers that are so often the real fault. Protection testing: secondary and primary injection relay test sets, amplifiers, IEC 61850 network analysers and their interface boxes. Instrument transformer testing: CT and VT analysers for ratio, saturation, burden and excitation. Insulation testing: megohmmeters and AC/DC hipot sets from benchtop units to high-voltage modular stacks. Partial discharge measurement with its sensors, couplers and calibrators. And dissolved gas analysis monitors and portable gas chromatographs for transformer oil.
What actually fails on these instruments is rarely exotic. Switch-mode power supplies give out under unstable substation supply. LCD panels and backlights die. Membrane keypads stop responding. Thermal printers jam. Battery packs swell. Output amplifier stages blow after a short or an inductive kick. Measurement channels drift or go open after a surge. Travel transducers break where they mount to the breaker mechanism. Every one of those is a routine component-level repair — the instrument's age is largely irrelevant. Where a specific obsolete component genuinely cannot be sourced anywhere, our PCB reverse engineering team redesigns that section of the board to restore the original function.
We are equally clear about our limits, because in this field vagueness costs people money. We hold no OEM authorisation and we do not imply any. We are a repair house, not a NABL-accredited calibration laboratory: we functionally verify repaired instruments against our reference standards and issue a test report, but if your quality system or a statutory audit needs an accredited certificate, arrange calibration at an accredited lab after our repair. For reference-grade sources such as OMICRON CMC test sets we recommend that actively rather than leaving you to work it out. And if we judge an instrument beyond economic repair, we tell you so instead of billing for a doomed attempt.
Diagnosis is free and the quote is fixed before any work starts. Ship from Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Pune, Kolkata, Nagpur, Bhubaneswar, Raipur, Jaipur, Lucknow, Coimbatore or anywhere else in India — see our shipping guide for packing and documentation, which matters for instruments of this value.
Test equipment repair — straight answers
We work across the field. The three we have documented in depth are Doble Engineering, OMICRON electronics and Vanguard Instruments, each with its own page listing every model. We also repair Megger, Phenix Technologies, ISA, TECHiMP, Morgan Schaffer, Hipotronics, Haefely, Chauvin Arnoux, AEMC, Fluke, Kyoritsu, Motwane, WACO, Scope, Rishabh and Automatic Electric instruments. If your make is not listed, send us the nameplate — the underlying electronics are usually well within our scope.
No, and we state that on every page. Synchronics is an independent electronic repair company with no affiliation to, authorisation from, or endorsement by Doble, OMICRON, Megger or any other test equipment manufacturer. All brand and model names are the property of their owners and are used only to identify the equipment we repair. If your instrument is under OEM warranty or service contract, go to the manufacturer first — third-party repair will void that cover.
We functionally verify repaired instruments across their measurement ranges against our reference standards and supply a test report. We are a repair house, not a NABL-accredited calibration laboratory. If your quality system or a statutory audit requires an accredited calibration certificate, have the unit calibrated at an accredited lab once we have restored it to working order. For reference-grade sources such as OMICRON CMC test sets, we actively recommend accredited calibration after any output-stage repair.
Bring it to us. "Obsolete" from a manufacturer means they no longer stock the assembly or maintain the production test rig — it rarely means the fault itself is unfixable. Failed regulators, dead driver stages, cracked solder joints, blown shunts, dead displays and jammed printers are all routine component-level repairs regardless of the instrument's age. Where a specific component is genuinely unobtainable, our PCB reverse engineering team can redesign that part of the board.
Most units are diagnosed within 48 hours of arrival at our Vadodara facility. Straightforward repairs are typically completed in 5–7 working days. Instruments needing obsolete-component sourcing or board redesign take longer, and we give you a realistic date in the written quote rather than after the fact.
Neither. We do not offer courier pickup or drop, and we do not carry out on-site installation or commissioning. You ship the instrument to Vadodara and we ship it back after repair. Our shipping page covers packing, insurance and documentation, which matters for instruments of this value.
We will still take it, but an inspection charge applies. Tracing and undoing someone else's rework takes substantially longer than diagnosing a factory-original fault, and it is only fair that this is charged separately. We tell you the inspection charge before you ship anything.
Usually. These instruments were built to last, and the measurement front end and mechanics typically outlive the electronics that fail. Replacing a transformer test set or relay test system is a major capital purchase with a long procurement cycle; a power supply, display or channel repair is a small fraction of that cost and takes weeks rather than months. We give you the free diagnosis and fixed quote first so you can make that call with real numbers — and if we think a unit is beyond economic repair, we say so.
