OMICRON electronics GmbH, founded in 1984 and headquartered in Klaus, Austria, is the company that made protection relay testing portable and software-driven. If Doble owns the heritage of insulation diagnostics, OMICRON owns the modern relay test bay — the CMC family is the most widely deployed secondary injection test set in the world, and Test Universe is the software most protection engineers learned their trade on.
From that base OMICRON expanded across the whole substation: the CPC 100 turned primary testing into a single multifunctional instrument, CT Analyzer and VOTANO 100 automated instrument transformer testing, CIBANO 500 combined three separate breaker tests into one box, and TESTRANO 600 brought three-phase transformer testing into a single portable unit.
More recently OMICRON has pushed hard into the digital substation — StationScout and StationGuard for IEC 61850 and substation cybersecurity, DANEO 400 for hybrid conventional and digital signal analysis, and the CMC 850 for sampled-values and GOOSE-based schemes.

Common faults on OMICRON test equipment
Current & Voltage Amplifier Stages
The most common CMC failure. Output amplifier modules fail after a short across the output, an inductive kick from a relay coil, or sustained operation into a low-impedance burden. Symptoms range from one dead channel to a hard output fault at power-up.
Power Supply & Mains Input
SMPS failures on CMC and CPC units driven by unstable substation supply, surges and long generator runs — often taking the input rectifier, PFC stage or standby rail with them.
Controller & DSP Boards
Boot failures, unresponsive controller cards, firmware corruption and internal bus faults that stop the instrument being detected by Test Universe or Primary Test Manager.

OMICRON test equipment repair in India
An OMICRON CMC test set is often the single most valuable instrument a protection testing team owns, and it is also the one most exposed to damage. It spends its life being driven between substations, connected to live-adjacent secondary wiring by engineers working under time pressure, and asked to drive current into relay coils and burdens that do not always behave as expected. A shorted output, a reversed connection or a surge coming back down the substation LAN is all it takes.
When that happens the instrument usually has to leave the country for OEM service, which means weeks of downtime for the testing programme and a repair cost quoted in euros. For an in-warranty or contract-covered unit that is still the correct route, and we will tell you so. For an out-of-warranty CMC 256plus, an ageing CPC 100, a CT Analyzer with a dead measurement channel or an accessory box that has been crushed in transit, independent component-level repair in India is usually faster and dramatically cheaper.
Synchronics has been repairing industrial electronics at component level from Vadodara for over three decades. Our engineers work on the circuit rather than swapping modules — tracing a failed amplifier stage to the specific device, repairing the board, and verifying the channel across its output range before the unit goes back. Where a component is obsolete, our PCB reverse engineering team can redesign that part of the board.

OMICRON and all model names are their trademarks and appear here only to identify the equipment we repair. If your unit is in warranty or under an OMICRON service contract, use OMICRON — third-party repair will void that cover. We serve out-of-warranty, end-of-life and unsupported instruments.
Usually yes. A single dead current or voltage channel is most often a failed output amplifier stage, and that is a board-level repair rather than a write-off. We diagnose which stage has failed, repair or rebuild it, and verify the channel against our reference standards across its output range before returning the unit.

We are not a licence reseller and cannot supply, transfer or unlock licences. We repair hardware only.

We are a repair house, not an accredited calibration laboratory — for a NABL-accredited certificate, have the unit calibrated at an accredited lab after repair. Because OMICRON test sets are frequently used as reference-grade sources, we recommend accredited calibration after any output-stage repair.
